The Adani Group along with the Maharashtra Government is currently in the process of bringing complete transformation to the largest slum of Asia, the Dharavi slum. This redevelopment project is one of the striking projects to be undertaken by the Adani group in the infrastructure sector. It will not only give Adani Group’s infrastructure business a boost but the project will also bring a transformation in the lives of thousands of people who have been leading their lives in an extremely stressful condition for a considerable amount of time now.

The Latest Development Being Made At The Adani Dharavi Project:

In a groundbreaking move, the Adani Dharavi redevelopment project is currently leveraging advanced technologies like drones and Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) to map and survey the Dharavi slum area. This approach aims to ensure transparency, precision, and efficiency in a project which is of immense complexity and scale. The Dharavi area is home to approximately 1 million people. Out of these, 7 lakh residents are likely to be eligible for free 350-square-foot flats under the extensive development plan. This project will help the Adani Group in extending its hold over the infrastructure. The global business group will also be able to bring about a transformation in the lives of millions of people through this project.

An Overview Of The Adani Dharavi Project:

The Adani Dharavi development project is 80% owned by the Adani Group. Through this project, the Adani Group aims to transform the slum into a modern urban hub of international standards. As a part of this project, the eligible residents of the Dharavi slum area will be offered free flats of 350 square feet. Each flat will have independent kitchens and bathrooms. The global conglomerate is currently in the process of surveying shortlisting eligible candidates for free homes. It is also already in the process of acquiring the necessary approvals for carrying out the different development works at the project.

As of now, the survey is ongoing to check whether the residents will be housed within the Dharavi area or relocated to other areas. Other than building houses, various commercial centres will also be built so that the people can easily earn themselves a source of living. Various hospitals, malls, and other amenities will be built for the people to uplift their living standards.

The Use of Advanced Technologies:

The Adani Dharavi redevelopment project would involve the use of advanced technologies like Drones and Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR). Mobile applications are also being employed to ensure that the project operations get carried out smoothly. Utilising laser-based technology creates precise 3D models of Dharavi’s intricate terrain, structures, and pathways. Portable backpack mountain scanners allow the teams to navigate to narrow lanes.

Arial drones can be used to capture overhead imagery. This can complement the ground-level mapping. Twin technology is also going to be used as a part of the project. This involves creating a virtual replica enabling improved data analysis and decision-making. These digital technologies help in identifying the eligible residents of the Dharavi slum area. It will also help resolve disputes and minimise errors in the data collection process.

Overcoming The Challenges:

Despite the promises and the positive outlook of the project, the Adani Group has faced a lot of challenges carrying out the various operations of the project. To address this concern, the DRP Slum Rehabilitation Authority has already launched an extensive public engagement campaign. This involves the distribution of information about the project, holding public meetings to explain the details of the survey, and establishing call centres for addressing the queries that people might have.

The field supervisors are also helping the residents in preparing and submitting the necessary documentation. This will ensure that no one is excluded from the process. The residents are also being offered acknowledgement after the submission of their documents. These documents outline the next steps to be carried out as a part of the project. The Maharashtra government has already approved the acquisition of 256 acres of saltpan land for building housing solutions. This ensures sufficient space is available for the current residents as well as the relocated ones.

Conclusion:

With the Adani Dharavi project achieving successful completion, the people of Dharavi will no longer have to live their lives in the same distressful conditions that they have been living in over the past few years. Their living conditions will change for the better. The Adani Group will also be able to position itself as one of the biggest players in the infrastructural sector of the country.
